A Confrontation In A Funny T-Shirt

November 10th, 2010

What I want you to take away from this article is that people will always step in and tell you that what you’re doing is either wrong, offensive, or unacceptable. This is the nature of human beings. We are social creatures, so that means we feel that other people’s lives are our business. On the day this story takes place, I was wearing a funny t-shirt. I cannot tell you what this funny t-shirt might have said, because I want to share my story to people of all ages…and, honestly, the t-shirt may have been a bit offensive.

The day all of this happened was actually a pretty good day. I had gone to Memphis to visit my girlfriend at the time, and our time together had been really fun up to this point in the story. We toured around Memphis and did lots of sightseeing. There were people in town that I knew, and many of them were meeting up at a local greasy-spoon restaurant. The plan was to stop by this diner, have a cup of coffee, and then reconvene at a later time for some adult beverages.

Let me be frank about something here. I know that the funny t-shirt that I was wearing that day was probably pretty uncouth. What happened in the bathroom of that diner was not the appropriate response, however. If something someone does offends you, threats are not the answer. A better response would have been to politely make a note of the offensive material and leave it in the hands of the offender to make it right. Anything but social politeness is offensive in and of itself, and then the situation becomes a self-devouring worm.

I really needed to go to the restroom when I got to the diner. I had been walking around Memphis for hours and there was some urgency involved. As soon as I walked through the door I said hello to my friends and made a bee line for the bathroom. As I was washing my hands after using the toilet, a cop walks in behind me. I said hello and he told me that some very serious business was about to go down if I didn’t reverse my funny t-shirt and hide the print across my chest.

I am still not sure is that cop was threatening me with legal action, or if he wanted to hit me in the face. Either way, I don’t get backed down that easy. I was about to make a scene in that stupid restaurant, but the thought of my extremely shy sweetheart jumped into my brain. I just couldn’t do that to her. I held my tongue, did as I was told, and went back out to sulk with my friends. I have never felt so powerless in my life, and I will never forget the day that someone kept me from expressing myself however I wanted.

Commercial Manipulation

Statutory rape and similar laws are written to protect children from abuse by older, predatory partners, teenagers. Any sexual activity involving teens and children under the age of consent is considered rape, even when both partners are willing.

Teachers and school counselors, for example, are legally obligated to report child abuse, which includes underage sexual activity and molestation, to authorities or a family member may bring charges because he or she disapproves of the relationship.

Any sexual relations with any individual under the age of consent is a criminal offense and punishments could range from community service up to the death penalty. Legal action is only taken when the age gap between the couple is socially unacceptable or if the older individual is in a position of authority over a minor such as teachers, ministers, priests, doctors and so on.

Statutory rape and similar laws are written to protect children from abuse by older, predatory partners, teenagers. Any sexual activity involving teens and children under the age of consent is considered rape, even when both partners are willing.

There are also a number of other acts that are prohibited between an adult and a person younger than the age of consent such as showing pornography to a minor or entice a minor to engage in pornographic activities prior to the age of consent. Age of Consent not only applies to straight individuals and couples but homosexuals as well.

Sex traffickers use a variety of methods to “condition” their victims including starvation, confinement, beatings, physical abuse, rape, gang rape, threats of violence to the victims and the victims’ families, forced drug use and the threat of shaming their victims by revealing their activities to their family and their families’ friends.

Sex trafficking on the other hand is one of the biggest concerns within and outside the United States. Young people are recruited into prostitution through forced abduction, pressure from parents, or through deceptive agreements between parents and traffickers. These children generally come from homes where they have been abused, or from families that have abandoned them and often become involved in prostitution as a way to support themselves financially or to get the things they want or need.

Damages That Can Be Dealt With A Personal Injury Lawsuit

July 9th, 2010

Sadly, nursing home abuse is a problem that is on the rise. It is painful and shameful. More and more elderly persons are subjected to ill treatment or neglect, which causes them pain. It is also painful for their loved ones. When this occurs, the injured parties can sue the nursing residence in a personal injury lawsuit.

A personal injury lawsuit covers a number of different types of injuries relevant to nursing home abuse. One important inclusion is injury caused via neglect or negligence on the part of the residence.

False imprisonment is also actionable. When an attendant falsely imprisons a resident, it can cause injury. Other regular hazards found in a nursing home may also be actionable.

Sometimes there are obvious physical injuries and signs of abuse. Other times, the injury is real but less immediately obvious, such as in the case of isolation, an inability to get needed prescriptions, or mental anguish. All of these are real injuries, and are covered in personal injury lawsuits.

Such injuries, or other harms resulting from nursing home abuse, should be brought up in your personal injury suit. To successfully establish liability however you will need to have proof of either abuse or neglect on the part of the nursing home.

Negligence is a broad term that can refer to many things. Examples of negligence include but are not limited to not monitoring employees adequately, not keeping the grounds well, not monitoring the health of residents sufficiently, and so on. Essentially, if harm is caused by something that the nursing home should have done but failed to do, then the harm should have been prevented if the home was acting responsibly. The harm is therefore caused by negligence, and is the fault of the nursing residence.

Nursing home abuse is surely a disturbing trend that is on the rise. Unfortunately, some elderly people suffer injury or pain in nursing homes because of abuse or neglect.

If you find that someone you love has been the victim of nursing home abuse, consult an attorney. You have rights, and no home should be engaging in such abuses or neglect.
