You might want to take some time with your project partners and break down every stop of the project for an RFP. Then, you should also have all the bids include a projected timeline for completion. If they can’t keep to the deadline, it could cost you more money, so this needs to be settled in advance.

Finally, the RFP should ask for each bid to include a contingency budget. This portion of the bid can be very eye opening. People with contingency budgets that are too large probably do not have a good idea of what they are doing or are a bit dishonest. No contingency budget suggests overconfidence. You want to see a reasonable margin of error.

Take the time to create an organized request for proposal and you’ll be more likely to receive the bids that contain the information you need. There are a number of different resources that you can use in order to do this. For example, there is a FedBizOpps.gov website where all opportunities for projects over $25,000 are listed. You can check that site to see if there are any projects you can bid on. Federal agencies also list smaller opportunities on their Bid Boards or on their websites, so it is important to check these locations as well because many of these smaller opportunities are reserved for small businesses.

One other way that you can learn about bidding opportunities is to become a GSA Schedule Contractor. Some types of products and services are purchased exclusively through the GSA, so this is a good place to start. Once you can start recognizing all your opportunities you will be able to keep the revenue flowing.

These courses that the GSA provides are a lot like any other online college or training course. They can even be completed for continuing education credits that are necessary for some industries. Anyone who completes the courses will also receive a certificate of satisfactory completion.

Once a contract has been awarded, it is vital that the successful bidder maintain communication with the end user or agency with whom the contract is established. Again, the GSA office supplies a portal for information gathering and exchange.

The GSA responsibility is to make sure that the vendors that won the contract will provide the best possible service and price. They are interested in making sure that projects are completed correctly and that quality is ensured. That’s why they really are more interested in assisting vendors rather than hindering them.
