How To Ensure The Confidentiality Of Your Information Over The Internet

August 17th, 2010

As identity theft and other crimes related to the online world continue to be committed, you should be keeping your identity and personal information as well guarded as possible. Especially with the social networking site Facebook in particular. Keep as much of your personal information hidden from view as possible.

Check your profile and make sure that the information that a complete stranger can read is nothing that is sensitive or private. Keep your security options set so only your friends can look at your profile and information.

The single most common thing that people on Facebook put on their profile is their birthday. This information is also a big part of discovering someone’s identity, and strangers can have access to learning this information.

You don’t want someone trying to figure out your personal information through accessing your birthday. It makes it easier to get access to your life as well as some of your accounts if you use it in your password, and that can cause a host of problems.

Never post where you work. It is okay to say something about the field you are in, but it’s better to err on the side of caution and just leave it blank. If you think about it, who needs to know that anyway? Once you start talking to someone, then you can tell them that information.

Getting a cyber stalker is one of the most creepy things in the world, and you never want that to become a real world experience. Don’t reveal enough about yourself to give a maniac any kind of inroad to your life.

People can track you down through the information about where and when you graduated as well, and quite honestly, that is information that nobody really needs to know, and you can tell them later when you get better acquainted.

Don’t be in a network on Facebook either. This is a big way that people can find out all sorts of things about you. The main thing in protecting yourself is to stay as anonymous as possible to strangers, and don’t give someone the chance to make your life miserable.

Ways To Ensure The Privacy And Integrity Of Information

August 1st, 2010

No matter if it is a large company with highly sensitive information, or a person keeping their personal data safe, everyone should find the best protection available.

Sometimes your private information can be accessed by others, either just routinely or else through malicious means. This can happen without your awareness or consent, and it is important to have data security that will protect against the unexpected holes with the current security measures you have.

If you are in the market for the most durable and impregnable type of security available to protect your files, then data security is the route to take.

Hardware systems as well as software programs offer two different types of data security. No matter if you are a multinational bank or a homeowner in the suburbs, these both have their unique advantages.

You may have heard of encryption. This is the most common form of data security, and it is the easiest and fastest way to store and retrieve data. A program will encode your file and the only way to decode it to have access is through a computer generated code that only you will have.

There are also highly advanced password protection systems that go far beyond the level of protection found in a standard email password account. These are known as strong user authentication systems and they are robust.

They go far beyond just the main login users are familiar with for general applications. These programs will present follow up questions that need to be answered, otherwise the person logging in will be kicked off the system. Having this multi level approach to data protection makes your documents ultra secure.

In addition to providing data security, high level security systems will also back up your data as well. This takes the worry from loosing a hard drive, or having a virus chew through your system or network. Most services do it in real time, or at specific times a day, but the end result is that if something catastrophic happens, your files are protected and easily accessible.

Lots of research has gone into trying to find out the best method of turning visitors into permanent customers. It is only a website that can attract frequent customers that stands the chance of facilitating online trade.

These are a few factors to help you make a successful website:

You should endeavor to get a qualified person to produce the website; since persuading a relative who understands a bit of HTML to help can give you results that are bound to lack the important touches that are needed for a professional look.

The qualified web designers have the knack of making the site look attractive and able to pull people because this is needed for it to pull customers. They have the knowledge of what items to be displayed where for it to look beautiful. What is needed when trying to start a web business is to entrust the work to only those who are experienced in this line.

Also be sure to get the best host. Imagine spending all your time and money trying to build a successful website and then as soon as the work starts and there is light down the tunnel, you suddenly discovered that the host cannot be relied on.

The only host you should rely on is the one that commands 99.9% downtime. Do not be tempted to pick just any company. Go for the best and here you will find that the best names in the market are like Hostgator, MediaTemple, Dreamhost, and so on.

A contact form and privacy plan will help a great deal if you have one. In fact the contact form is a compulsory thing to have. In most cases, it will help your clients to reach you, so it is good to include your email address or drawing up a simple form.

It is the same case to a privacy plan. Do out a good privacy policy which will enable people to know of any useful information available. This will make them feel comfortable with you and forestall any future problems.

Spend Less Time With An RFP

January 20th, 2010

Have you ever been swamped by a huge pile of proposals when you begin a new project? Are any of them ever presented in a way that will make them easy to understand? There always seems to be a lot of questionable details in them, which makes it hard to choose who you should award the contract to.

There’s still hope, though. If you use an RFP, or request for proposal, you can avoid a lot of the confusion that surrounds many projects. Make sure that it is clear and concise and provides all the information on what is expected from your potential contractors.

Your RFP should help your contractors generate some pretty uniform bids. This will ensure that you have the information you want and that it is organized just the way that you need it. Of course, you will want to include information about your own company, including your contact information and how you expect to receive your bids. If you ask for them to be faxed and someone sends them via email, you can assume they aren’t really paying attention to details and eliminate them from the pool.

You should expect a lot of basic information from your prospective companies as well. That means asking for their work history, their areas of specialty, and any references they have. Be ready to check those references because that is a great sour of objective information.

Once you’ve got the basic information, it’s time to get to the core of the proposal. You need to be as clear as possible when you are describing the job and what is expected of the contractor. For example, if you are hiring someone for a concrete job, you need to outline what the job will include. Flat work only? Will there be a stoop and some stairs? These details are extremely important if you’re going to get an accurate proposal. If you’re not careful, the contractor could have a completely different idea about what is expected, and you may come to this realization too late in the process. And that can cost you a lot of time and money.

You might want to take some time with your project partners and break down every stop of the project for an RFP. Then, you should also have all the bids include a projected timeline for completion. If they can’t keep to the deadline, it could cost you more money, so this needs to be settled in advance.

Finally, the RFP should ask for each bid to include a contingency budget. This portion of the bid can be very eye opening. People with contingency budgets that are too large probably do not have a good idea of what they are doing or are a bit dishonest. No contingency budget suggests overconfidence. You want to see a reasonable margin of error.

Take the time to create an organized request for proposal and you’ll be more likely to receive the bids that contain the information you need. An RFP will save you time and money, since you will be able to quickly and easily compare potential contractors side by side before you make your final decision.

Government Contracts – Is It Worth It?

December 23rd, 2009

It’s true that there are some government contracts that are more lucrative than others. But it’s also true that these contracts provide a steady source of work and regular payments. If a company is going to be successful at procuring government contracts, though, it will have to have a good understanding about how the process works.

The first thing a company should do is start of small. There are a lot of little towns or municipalities that offer work, and it is easier to get involved with these jobs than it is the larger state or federal jobs. These contracts will probably pay less than twenty five thousand dollars, but these kinds of contracts are crucial to building a reputation as a reliable and capable contractor.

Contracting Procurement Officers and Purchasing Agents (CPOs and PAs, respectively) will have the job of defining the parameters of the Request for Proposal (RFP) that will be released for bids. It is going to be their responsibility to get acquainted with the market value of the goods and services they require. That way they will be able to ensure that the government contracts will be awarded to the company that will deliver the most value at a fair market cost.

As a precaution to protect the financial investment at stake, the CPOs and PAs also carefully assess the warranty, service, reputation and terms of the bidders. This can save a lot of time and money down the road.

Right now, only about 20 percent of the businesses in the U.S. participate in bidding for government contracts. This is a startling statistic since there really is a lot of potential for work and income from these contracts. The reason many companies don’t attempt to gain government contracts is simply because they are too nervous about the rather large amounts of paperwork and red tape that surround government work.

Another reason why many companies fail to get involved is that they simply don’t know how to get started with the bidding and acquisition process. It doesn’t have to be difficult, though. In fact, the Government Services Administration (GSA) website provides a lot of answers and tips.

For federal bids, the Government Services Administration office maintains a web site that offers short courses that are designed to educate and assist bidders. Continuing education credits are available to those who complete the courses, and there are certificates of completion that can be displayed.

Once the company has build up a solid reputation in the local scene, it will be much easier to get more lucrative federal government contracts down the road. If the company meets its deadlines and provides quality work, they will continue to receive more contracts.

When applying for federal contracts it is important to have a well written RFP. Evelyn has some writing experience with construction contracts, federal procurement and other similar topics. For more information, see her other articles.

Government Contracts Are A Great Opportunity For Small Businesses

November 18th, 2009

The United States government is one of the largest purchasers of goods and services in the world. Therefore, it can be very beneficial to get the government as one of your customers, especially if you can get government contracts for recurring purchases.

There is a process that a business that must go through if they want to procure a government contract. The good news is that the government has a number of regulations that make sure that a certain percentage of their contracts are awarded to small businesses.

In order to become qualified to bid on government contracts, small businesses will need to classify their company by the size and type of business they are running according to the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) and the SBA size standard.

The government agencies that are offering the contract will need this information. And, since some of the contracts that they award are specified for certain types of business, you should also specify whether or not your company qualifies as a woman-owned business, a veteran-owned business, a HUBZone business, or a service-disabled business.

The next step, if you want to get a government contract, is to register with the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) database. This is the system most government agencies use to discover the companies that will be most likely to successfully provide them with the services or goods they need. That means the company will have to have an NAICS code, the SBA size standard for the company, the DUNS number, Standard Industrial Classification codes, and a Federal Tax Identification Number.

After you are registered in the CCR database, government agencies may contact you to see whether or not you wish to bid on government contracts. However, if you really want to get government business, you need to pursue opportunities on your own as well.

There are a number of different resources that you can use in order to do this. For example, there is a FedBizOpps.gov website where all opportunities for projects over $25,000 are listed. You can check that site to see if there are any projects you can bid on. Federal agencies also list smaller opportunities on their Bid Boards or on their websites, so it is important to check these locations as well because many of these smaller opportunities are reserved for small businesses.

One other way that you can learn about bidding opportunities is to become a GSA Schedule Contractor. Some types of products and services are purchased exclusively through the GSA, so this is a good place to start. Once you can start recognizing all your opportunities you will be able to keep the revenue flowing.

The process of submitting an application for a request for proposal (RFP) is tricky when not understood clearly. Once understood it is critical to present well written government contracts. Evelyn has had enough writing practice with construction contracts, government procurement and other comparable topics that she understands the process. The GSA Is A Great Resource For Government Contracts

November 16th, 2009

When the economy hits a slump, like it’s currently in, businesses have to start looking for new sources of revenue and customers who actually have a budget that allows them to spend money. Many of these businesses are not looking in the right place. They could be looking at a customer that has over one trillion dollars to spend with small businesses – it’s called the U.S. government. Unfortunately, more than 80 percent of small businesses don’t attempt to gain access to this revenue.

The main thing that holds these companies back from government contracts is the fear of the complexity of government regulations. The government has a reputation for making companies jump through a lot of hoops and deal with tons of paperwork. It can be a little overwhelming to a company that hasn’t had much experience in the industry.

The acquisition process for all federal government contracts in excess of twenty five thousand dollars starts with the Government Services Administration (GSA) office. In addition, the GSA serves as the center for all federal contract activity and offers instruction about the bidding process for the contracts it administers.

There are a lot of resources available at the GSA for companies that are experienced with government contracts as well as those that are just starting out. The GSA website is one of the best tools you can use in your hunt for good contracts, but this is where most government contract activity takes place.

The GSA is more than just a source of potential contracts, though. It also offers an entire online education with courses that are designed to walk a novice bidder or company through the basics of government contracts. More experienced bidders will also be able to keep up with important developments in the industry and change their practices accordingly.

These courses that the GSA provides are a lot like any other online college or training course. They can even be completed for continuing education credits that are necessary for some industries. Anyone who completes the courses will also receive a certificate of satisfactory completion.

Once a contract has been awarded, it is vital that the successful bidder maintain communication with the end user or agency with whom the contract is established. Again, the GSA office supplies a portal for information gathering and exchange.

The GSA responsibility is to make sure that the vendors that won the contract will provide the best possible service and price. They are interested in making sure that projects are completed correctly and that quality is ensured. That’s why they really are more interested in assisting vendors rather than hindering them. And that means you don’t have to be so worried about getting government contracts.
