How To Increase Website Profits

November 21st, 2009

Whatever Your Visitors Want, Give it to Them

Too many times a web master will create a site that has meaningless information about their business. The problem is, web traffic cares less about your business and more about the what they want. Don’t appeal to their interests, and you’ve lost them.

So how do you get your visitors to stay and not running off to your competitors? The easy answer, “Give them what they want.” To do this you need to answer the following question, “What do my visitors want?” This question can be answered by dividing it into three more specific questions: First, Who are your visitors? Second, What attracted them to your site originally? And Third, What do they want when they come to your site? Once you know the answers to these questions it becomes very simple to attract and retain them.

You can learn more about your customer in two ways, by just asking them and by installing analytic software like Google Analytics. Both are highly recommended because both provide information that the other cannot. This information is like gold because it becomes a catalyst to providing quality content that keeps your visitors coming back for more.

Attract More Visitors

The great thing about finding out who your customers are and what they want is that it becomes a catalyst to building traffic. However, this alone will not maximize the amount of traffic you can receive. There are as many ways to build traffic as your creativity allows. We will go over a few, as well as some overlooked ways that you can build traffic for your website.

The quickest way to build traffic to your website is by using Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising. This method of advertising can become expensive, but if done correctly, it can become a very lucrative method. To start, it is recommended to use a low budget with Google Adwords (a very popular PPC resource). The beauty about using Google Adwords is that it connects wonderfully with Google Analytics. If set up properly, you can discover if your advertising efforts are worth the money, and take the necessary steps to improve your ROI.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is another must in traffic building for those who are serious about maximizing their profits. SEO is a way in which you can have your website ranked higher within search engines, thus creating more traffic to your website. SEO is done in two parts: First, your website must be search engine friendly. Second, there must be other websites linking to your site.

Monetize Your Website

While you want to provide your web traffic with the content that they want, you also need to make it easy for them to make you more money. Does your website make it difficult for your visitors to sign up for a membership or make a purchase? Why? Make it easy for them, and your visitors will respond appropriately.

You can make it difficult for your visitors to make you money in many ways. Give them too many options to nonprofitable actions, making your navigation confusing and cluttering your web pages with random text and graphics. Get your customers attention to a profitable action by using varying degrees of contrast, color and font choice. When in doubt use different approaches on different pages and measure the results.

Don’t stop there, there are other ways to increase your online sales. From branding, and benefit centered marketing to cross promotions and improving “Call to Action” you will see a major bump in website revenues.

Hire an Expert

Like trying to do your own plumbing, Trying to do web design and marketing by yourself can lead to more bad than good. Sure, if your dedicated and take time to get the proper experience you can do fine. But if your serious about turning a higher profit for your website right now, you’ll be better off hiring a professional.

Myths About Blogging

November 18th, 2009

The are still numerous myths floating around the blogosphere and you really have to marvel at all the different information sources, many of them conflicting. So here are my debunkings:

The simplest of all people can start a blog. I don’t think so! Though you don’t have to be super technical when it comes to blogging, you still should know how to use the computer, need an Internet connection and blog hosts (free or paid), some experience using the Internet and most importantly a passion for writing and communicating your thoughts.

Anyone can set up a blog. It all depends on your blog hosts. Some blogs hosts have simpler user interface and in minutes your blogs will be up in minutes. But there are others that get far more technical than the average users may be ready for.

Blogging doesn’t take up that much time. That depends! Some posts, when you have a clear idea of what you want to say, may take just a few minutes while you may struggle for days (literally) with others that involve complex issues or thoughts. In general, blogging is a daily activity for the serious blogger (some bloggers write up to ten posts a day) and a once-a-week activity for the casual blogger.

Most blogs are political. Nope, only some. Many blogs focus on political topics but most blogs are just bloggers discussing their lives, loves and travels. A list of the 50 most visited blogs at BlogHub (http://www.bloghub.com/top50blogs.htm) shows very few political blogs.

Blogs are in competition with the main-stream media. This is true in a few cases (not as many cases as bloggers would have you think). Just recently, there have been some very popular and influential social and politically-oriented blogs that have caused main-stream media outlets to back-track and change their coverage of important events.

Bloggers are just having fun criticizing everyone and everything and have no new information to add. True in some cases. Today, blogging is much more than the personal activity it used to be. Corporations, media outlets, public personalities, politicians and experts in almost every field have now joined the ranks of blog producers. Considering all this expertise, one would have to say that bloggers have a lot of new information to add to any debate.

Blogs don’t always tell the truth. That’s a bit of an overstatement. You may read bad information and even intentional untruths in blogs but, for the most part, bloggers who state facts are stating what they honestly believe to be fact. It is always up to the readers to verify that any information they receive is accurate information.

Keyword Bid Management

November 18th, 2009

Keyword bid management is critical to maintaining a profitable internet marketing campaign. Done properly it will increase your return on investment. It will increase click through ratios, improve ad position and save you time and money.

The keyword bid management that makes sure you build your campaign on solid data is the tool that pays for its self hundreds of times over. Why put so much hard work into a campaign to base it on weak research or a best guess? The unfortunate answer is that many people just do not have the time or knowledge to perform the research required to make a scientific decision.

The best keyword bid management will make sure you are building your marketing campaigns on efficient profit generating research. This type of research will reveal the most profitable low competition niches and will give you the information you need to dominate those niches and your competition. Research of the quality being discussed here will make the foundation of your campaign a scientific process that maximizes your efforts.

Good keyword bid management provides the detailed data you need to turn your keyword selection into a scientific process. With all of the critical data you need to make an educated keyword selection you will dominate your competition and increase your profits. Many software features are cool to talk about but the real test is if they are making your efforts profitable.

Since solid keyword bid management is based on the research that lays the foundation for your entire campaign it is important that the research process is efficient. For this process to be efficient it must provide you all critical data quickly and in an easy to use format. This is no easy task considering all of the information required to make a scientific decision can be scattered across a dozen or more sources.

A free keyword bid management tool of one type or another is often recommended by the experts in the internet marketing field. While these tools can be a place to start if your resources are limited they will cost you time and money in the long run well beyond the cost of a good quality tool. Most experts do not recommend the free tools to be nice guys and gals they do it to keep you in the dark.

The best keyword bid management methods start with keyword research and are the foundation of your entire campaign. Normally the level of research required will take a day or more to evaluate a single niche and will have you checking dozens of websites to find the right information. Keyword Bid Tool

November 18th, 2009

A keyword bid tool usually focuses on automated functions like bid settings and keyword management. These are vital functions once your campaign is up and running. But the tools with this focus are leaving out the most important aspect of your campaign.

A keyword bid tool can be extremely useful for checking the content you generate for article marketing or web pages. The right density will insure that your content looks natural and useful to the search engines. Of course the best way to make your content natural is to write your content so it is interesting and easy to read for humans.

The best keyword bid tool will make sure you are building your marketing campaigns on efficient profit generating research. This type of research will reveal the most profitable low competition niches and will give you the information you need to dominate those niches and your competition. Research of the quality being discussed here will make the foundation of your campaign a scientific process that maximizes your efforts.

An efficient keyword bid tool will quickly find the critical information you have been lacking and will report this information in an easy to use format. Efficient means you get the most return for the least input. In other words what used to take you days will only take hours with the application of the right tool.

Many experts suggest a keyword bid tool that is free. Using free methods will cost you more in time and money than you can ever save by not purchasing the correct tools. Using free methods versus good quality software is similar to walking across country versus driving a new Corvette across country, there is no comparison.

With the right keyword bid tool in your back pocket you will quickly find and dominate profitable niches that your competition may never even find. The trick to doing this is the amount of data that must be compiled to properly find and analyze your keyword niche. Most software packages will not have the legs to do this and only a select few do it so well that it becomes quick and easy.

A high performance keyword bid tool is the last thing that all of the experts and gurus want you to have. They know if you have a quality research tool and gain the knowledge to use it that you will become real competition to them.

When you select a keyword bid tool make sure to look for the time saving features that leverage your time and look for the profit building features that guide you to the right niche and keyword the first time every time. Don’t be afraid to spend a little cash as a good keyword tool will cost you at least $100. But like most quality tools it will pay for itself in time savings and profit generation every time you use it.

Stop wasting your effort building campaigns around flawed research with free tools. Start leveraging your valuable effort into reliable profit generating efforts that dominate the competition with the best keyword bid tool.

KEYWORD GENERATOR SOFTWARE

November 12th, 2009

Keyword generator software can be a real time saver for the savvy internet marketer. Finding the right software can be worse than buying a new car with all of the features, options and combinations available. However you need to dig through all of the fluff and shine to find the most useful features.

Really good keyword generator software will be what keeps bread on your table and a roof over your head. This is because all of the bells and whistles on that new software can be great and invaluable if they are the right ones. But first you have to figure out which features you need the most.

Without the right keyword generator software the proper in depth research you need to dominate your niche will take days. With the right software your in depth research will take a few hours leaving you more time to write great content and build competition crushing campaigns. Good software will also make your research a simple process of scientific discovery that guides you to the right answer the first time every time.

When you select keyword generator software make sure to look for the time saving features that leverage your time and look for the profit building features that guide you to the right niche and keyword the first time every time. Don’t be afraid to spend a little cash as a good keyword tool will cost you at least $100. But like most quality tools it will pay for itself in time savings and profit generation every time you use it.

Settling Upon the Appropriate Search Engine Marketing Company for Your Goals

November 10th, 2009

Choosing the right search engine marketing company (SEM) is not an easy task. Before choosing the first company you find, you should consider several different things to help determine your specific needs. This will ensure the SEM company hired to help your business will work best for you.

Finding A SEM Company To Trust

The most important factor is that you choose a SEM company you can trust. Meet with several different companies to discuss some plans before delving into detailed plans. Your business will enter into a relationship with the company and as this relationship develops, information pertinent to the success of your business will be released. If the company cannot be trusted, you are risking your business’ well being.

In helping deduce whether the SEM is trustworthy, you should insist that they show you some references. If they are wary about providing you with references, you should take this as a major warning, because any reputable SEM would not be afraid to show you their references. If the company you chose to work with is new and does not have a lot of experience, you should tread carefully in this situation and figure during your interviews with them if they are worth your time and money.

Next, ask yourself if the search engine marketing company answer all of your questions to the fullest possible extent without dodging any aspect? If the company is willing to provide any information you ask for without hesitation and willing to fully explain the process, it’s a safe bet you can trust them.

If the search engine marketing company tries to pressure you into anything or services you don’t need or understand, do not trust them. However, understand that sometimes they will point out problems with your site. If they are big problems, then you should correct time because there is no point in paying for advertising is your site cannot convert interested visitors into paying customers.

Identify the Services You Need

Not all search engine marketing companies are created equally. Though there are many basic services such as search engine optimization, pay-per-click advertisement and pay-for-inclusion services, search engine marketing and optimization will involve several different things from a site re-design to new content and marketing to build back links — links to your site from another reputable site — to help increase rankings naturally. Pay-per-click campaigns will advertise your company in the search engine results page on the sidebars, and you will pay each time the ads get clicked. Pay for inclusion services allow you to pay to have search engines crawl certain pages of your website with a certain frequency.

Getting To A Comfortable Risk Level

Any search engine marketing plan will require an investment before knowing if and how much money the company will earn back in new customers and sales. It is important that you determine beforehand how much risk you are willing to take. Do not let the company pressure you into more.

Take your time in finding and choosing a search engine marketing company. Because of the investment and importance of the business relationship, this is something that should not be rushed into if you expect the best possible results. The search engine marketing company you ultimately choose should understand and be willing to help you with any aspect of making the decision on the right company for your needs.

KEYWORD DENSITY TOOL

October 31st, 2009

While a keyword density tool is useful for optimizing your content there is a highly critical optimization parameter that we have overlooked up to this point. Think about what happens to a structure built on a weak foundation. In the best case such a structure has problems and in the worst cases you have a complete failure of the structure and expensive repairs follow.

A keyword density tool can be extremely useful for checking the content you generate for article marketing or webpages. The right density will insure that your content looks natural and useful to the search engines. Of course the best way to make your content natural is to write your content so it is interesting and easy to read for humans.

Your keyword density tool will not give you the information you need to dominate your competition and your marketing niche. It will just give you a bland percentage based on a simple calculation. Keyword density is simply the total number of times your keyword phrase appears in your text divided by the total number of words on that page.

Your keyword density tool probably will not tell you this but current experience suggests that keyword density should be approximately one to two percent. Some say less some say as much as five percent but the truth is no one really knows and search algorithms are too complex to break it down to a single optimization parameter.

KEYWORD BID

October 28th, 2009

You set your keyword bid after careful consideration of the amount that will bring the best return on investment (ROI) in your marketing campaign. You looked at your competitors ads and you think you have a winning strategy. But once your campaign is live and each click is quickly draining money from your account do you fight waves of panic over the gamble you just made or are you relaxing in confidence with the knowledge that you built your campaign on a rock solid foundation?

A keyword bid is like the tip of the iceberg it only shows 10% of the whole picture while the other 90%, your keyword research, is hidden below the surface. When you get that 90% part below the surface right you stop wasting time and money finding out which keywords work and which ones don’t.

Your keyword bid is very important to the success of your campaign but the quality of the research that occurs before your bid is what ultimately determines your ROI in any given campaign. If you do not perform the right keyword research before starting your campaign you are building it on a broken foundation that is likely to fail.

The right keyword bid research tool will quickly find all of the critical data you need to make highly educated decisions on your bids and keyword phrases. A quality research tool will give you insight into your competition so you can dominate your niche. And finally the right tool will present and report all of the required information in an easy to use format.

But once your campaign is live and each click is quickly draining money from your account do you fight waves of panic over the gamble you just made or are you relaxing in confidence with the knowledge that you built your campaign on a rock solid foundation?

Placing a keyword bid is an anxiety producing experience for many and for good reason. If you didn’t take the time to build a concrete foundation under your campaign you could be throwing your money out the window. However if you build your campaigns around data that allow your decisions to become a matter of science and not just a guess you can eliminate that anxiety.

Any keyword bid you place should be built on quality keyword research that finds highly searched low competition phrases that will make your campaigns money making winners. Your research should also include a review of what the competition is bidding on your phrases.

Super-Charge WordPress Out-Of-The-Box For SEO

October 26th, 2009

Wordpress out of the box permits basic management of the primary SEO meta data. To expand the functionality we add our own super-charged version of the All-In-One-SEO Pack. The SEO pack makes it easy to alter the page title and page meta description.

The All-In-One-SEO Pack is a great WordPress plugin that finishes off the SEO aspects for WordPress. For some unknown reason WordPress still has not got the SEO fixed out of the box.

The All-In-One-SEO Pack allows you you to change the most significant page elements – page title and page description. It also permits you to change the page keywords, but as we all know, search engines no longer take note of these because they have been spammed too much in the past. Google finished using the keywords for page ranking in the early 2000’s.

Page Title tags

This is the No1 SEO component to control. Always make sure that you manipulate the page title. The page title appears in the browser window at the very top of the screen. Search engines use this in the listings and display it in their search results.

Always try to make the page title only incorporate the keywords you want the page to rank for. Try to limit them to 2 or three maximum.

Just like with a book the page title of an HTML page is the most significant component. Never leave this element to chance. Make sure you use keywords in the title.

If your page needs to extend to cover two or 3 keywords we have learned that you can still get effective rankings from adding multiple keywords to the title. But do remember that the closer the page title is to the keyword you want to rank for the better.

If you are a larger branded company you will likely want to add your company or brand name into the page title seeing this is exposed on Google. Keep it short and uncomplicated though. Do not add your brand statement just your brand or company name.

Page Descriptions Meta Tags

This element is NOT used by search engines for ranking purposes. Nevertheless, most search engines will use this in their search results so it is important. Google does not use the description all the time but we find that it uses it about 80-90% of the time. The rest of the time it will pick up the first piece of text on the page.

By having a good description it will increase your click through rates because the text will be more attractive to people. Ensure that you use a maximum of 156 characters. If you use any more characters Google will truncate the rest. If you can keep your descriptions to 140 characters or less this is even better seeing Google sometimes adds a date to the start of the description which is part of the 156 characters it displays.

SEO Meta data shown on Google listing

Changing the meta data and page title

At the bottom of every page and post you will find the meta tags plugin details. Update the details appropriately. Note: If you can only use see the title for the plugin and no details, just click the title and the section will expand.

Using PPC To Boost Your SEO

October 23rd, 2009

The more I work with Internet marketing, the more I learn that all types of marketing are intertwined. In fact, many forms of marketing, like PPC can be critical to launching successful search engine optimization campaigns.

If you are already running your own pay-per-click campaigns, then you’ve been collecting valuable data than can have a tremendous influence on the success of your SEO. The most important thing to know is which information is can be used to inform other campaigns and how it can enhance the overall results you’re looking for.

The greatest part of PPC, is that it gives you a good deal of data about which type of website browsers are the best. That is to say that through pay-per-click, you can find the right browsers that convert into buyers. This information can then be used to make your marketing more targeted – improving conversion at a much lower cost.

The concept that I teach in SEO training is the most effective way to combine pay-per-click advertising with search engine optimization is to focus on conversions. What keywords have you promoted through pay per click advertising that led to conversions? If you’ve been running PPC for a while and you are still unsure, then consider expanding your analytic capabilities to include Google conversion tracking.

By looking at your PPC results, you can quickly find the keywords that lead to conversions. This information is golden. Not only can you use this to generate more traffic to your website, but you can also use this information to drive the right kind of traffic to your site. With the right focus, you can improve conversions and lower costs – because you’re not attracted bad traffic, rather, you’re only attracting the type of browsers who want your product or service.

An example of this might be someone promoting an ebook on how to fix a car. If the highest converting keyword is, car repair, then you should consider car repair as a keyword phrase you must optimize for. Organic traffic to this term will produce targeted web site visitors and conversions for little or no money as you improve your rankings.

After you’ve gotten more sophistication around converting pay per click terms and started an optimization campaign, it’s time to focus on other elements that can help with conversion. One of the most important is your web site and landing page. Most people work to optimize search terms that drive individuals to a web site. If that’s the case with you consider looking at your home page or web site landing page with a new perspective. Once a visitor is there, do you have a clear call to action? If not, consider revamping your landing pages to get browsers to take action.

Use what you’ve learning through PPC advertising to truly target your search engine optimization campaigns. By doing so, you can improve the quality of traffic you’re attracting to your site and reduce your pay per click costs. Don’t waste time optimizing your site for terms that no one is searching on or that never lead to conversion.
